Craving Icecream on Korcula

Korcula’s Creative Icecreams

On our way between Split and Dubrovnik we stayed on Korcula Island on the Croatian Dalmatian coast (see more later).

A waterfront street in Korcula town lines the edge of the peninsula on both sides basically following the line of the Old Town walls. We thought the prettier side (not the marina/hotel side) was the Set Petra Kanavelica walk; it has many restaurants, cafes and bars facing the water, with views to the hills on the other side of the bay. As with most of Europe this past summer, it was hot on Korcula, but sea breezes helped….and icecream!

Banana split with a twist!

Very clever!

One evening we strolled past a small icecream shop near the tip of the peninsula, with a few tables outside and long lines. We soon saw why: the icecream creations were wonderful. People buy one to hold while strolling, or stop at one of the tables on the waterfront to savor the more elaborate creations, which is what Nath and Sonya did.

An amazing hazelnut and cream concoction, and a novel Mexican-type twist to a banana split!
